The Problem with Waiting Until There Is a Problem!

dentalquote2For many reasons people put off seeing their dentist on a regular basis and only go when there really is a problem. By the time they finally do make an appointment, it is no longer a problem, it’s a crisis. For those people who think they are saving a penny or two, crisis treatment is going to cost a lot more than preventative treatment even if covered by dental insurance.

How do you know you have a problem if you do not see it and there is no pain? That’s a good question with a short answer, you don’t. The reason for regular dental checkups is that the majority of  dental problems do not show any symptoms until they are in the advanced stages.

Take tooth decay as an example. You may think that there is no problem because there is no pain. Well, guess what, tooth decay does not cause pain, hence you'll only find out when it's too late. The pain only occurs when the tooth has decayed close to the nerve and bacteria is eating into the root.

Instead of having a small filling which would have taken less than an hour out of your day and only a few pounds, it may now be necessary to have root canal treatment which may mean more than one visit to your family dentist. It is also going to put a hole in your wallet if you do not have what would now become the all important dental insurance plan we mentioned above.

It is understandable that people have dental fears, but todays dental technology ensures there is no pain when you're in the dentist's chair and it is far easier to have a dental checkup every six months than to let decay turn into gum disease.

Don’t wait until there is a problem, consider buying a dental insurance policy and scheduling your next dental visit as soon as possible.
