Eating At Your Desk Could Harm Your Teeth!

Wrigley’s, the chewing gum people have carried out a survey that indicates that one effect of the recession is that we now eat differently. Whereas previously workers would have got up and had lunch away from their desks, longer hours at work and the availability of snacks and ready to eat food, means that we now, as a nation, graze. We don’t have three meals a day, but simply snack more often. This can also have an effect on dental hygiene because snacking throughout the day means that we no longer brush our teeth after every meal. (The perfect dental routine

Instead we simply start snacking in the morning and then many of us carry on all day. Perhaps this has an associated effect on our obesity levels as a society! There seems to be a culture in many businesses today where we have to be seen to be at our desks and not taking as much personal time off as we have been used to in the past; unfortunately one of the side effects is that we are less inclined to leave our desks to brush our teeth after eating sugary snacks.

Wrigley’s have stepped up to the challenge of poor dental hygiene by launching a new range of gum that is approved by the British Dental Health Foundation and seeks to promote oral hygiene. Dencover Dental Insurance is proud to be a member of the BDHF. We would suggest that you try keep snacking to a minimum when possible and keep brushing teeth after lunch!
