Practicing Great Oral Hygiene

Practicing oral hygiene is all about keeping the mouth clean. Teeth that not cleaned regularly or properly soon become a haven for bacteria that build up on food residue. Bacteria in the mouth can lead to social as well as dental problems. That's why brushing your teeth twice per day is the best practice you can take onboard to help you have a great smile and great looking healthy teeth.

Look at the problems caused by not practicing oral hygiene.

  • Bad breath caused by a build-up of bacteria
  • Stained teeth caused by erosion of enamel by acidic foods
  • Mouth sores caused by germs
  • Build up of plaque leading to periodontitus
  • Gum erosion and loosening of teeth

Regular cleaning of the teeth and gums will remove bacteria and plaque and prevent dental problems from occurring.

People who do not regularly practice good oral hygiene leave themselves wide open for constant dental visits later in life and costly dental bills. Is it worth it when five minutes a day will keep the dentist away?

Brushing the teeth will remove all the food debris that collects between the teeth and sticks to plaque on the gum. Flossing is a great way to remove debris that the brush cannot reach. Dental flossing also ensures against a buildup of dental calculus between the teeth.

Using a mouthwash will ensure that the mouth is disinfected and will kill any bacteria that may remain in the mouth.
Do not forget the tongue. Anaerobic bacteria form on the tongue and are a major source of halitosis. Tongue cleaning is a process that the majority of people do not do on regular basis but it is one of the most important practices to ensure clean, fresh breath.

Practicing good oral hygiene twice per day and a dental checkup twice per year will help keep teeth healthy and free of problems.
